One Woman’s Quest to Learn Theology

One Woman’s Quest to Learn Theology

Well, this is it. I’m taking the plunge into what I perceived as a “man’s world” during my childhood/teenage years. Women have entered the once “man’s only” world of medicine (Thank you, Elizabeth Blackwell, Florence Nightingale, and Clara Barton). We have women military officers, pilots, teachers, astronauts and even political leaders. Do I believe women necessarily belong in every one of these fields? Personally, I do not. But, I choose not to criticize a woman for holding any of these positions. I have too many faults of my own to correct to take time out to verbally assault others for theirs. In my neck of the religious woods, theology is a man’s world. I have never carried on a theological discussion with a woman – except that one time  I met female preacher out on door to door soul winning. I am sad to say she knew more scripture... [Read more ...]

A Room of My Own

A Room of My Own

Yesterday, my husband and I set out for an evening together as a family. We went to Texarkana, which is about 30 minutes away, to shop and eat. We had a wonderful evening! We ate at Golden Corral, bought new bedding for our youngest girls and let the older kids buy a cartoon DVD at Target. And…we bought me a laptop!!!  (Insert excited squeal here.) I’m so excited! To see a picture, click here. (Mine’s in red!) I have been wanting a computer of my very own for over a year now. We have a desktop computer – and have had one for about ten years now – that the entire family uses. My husband uses a laptop which our church owns for all of his sermonizing, bulletin preparation, letter writing, etc. But I have had nothing of my own. I have to squeeze in my own computer time whenever I can make it to the school room/home office and hope that nothing gets deleted by a... [Read more ...]

I’ll Be Home for Christmas

I’ll Be Home for Christmas

It’s Christmastime, but I suppose you already knew that. You’ve been busily decorating, baking, shopping, and wrapping. I’ve been sitting. And occasionally lying down. I have two infections that I’m fighting right now. I’m also eight and one-half weeks along in my fifth pregnancy. I’m nauseated and…other things. Here I sit, in our chilly school room-slash-office at 3:30-ish in the morning typing on this blog that is read by, what? seven other people? IF I’m lucky! What’s really funny is that my thoughts to myself as I drifted off to sleep some few hours ago were along the lines of “I’m through blogging. It’s not real writing, after all. I’ve been “rejected” for the last time by magazines. No more! Writing just isn’t meant for me.” And now, here I am. I suppose the fact is that I am a writer,... [Read more ...]
